Misfit first appeared in West Coast Avengers #40 (January 1989), and was created by Mark Gruenwald and Al Milgrom.
The character subsequently appears in Avengers West Coast #76-79 (November 1991-February 1992), and Captain America #420 (October 1993).
Misfit appeared as part of the "Night Shift" entry in the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe Update '89 #5.
He underwent treatment by the Power Broker to enhance his strength to superhuman levels. While the treatment was effective, it grotesquely distorted his body, giving him a humped back, and only increasing the mass of his right arm and left leg. He joined the Night Shift when they recruited him.
He is later defeated by Captain America in an incident involving the Brothers Grimm.
Misfit has superhuman strength and endurance.
